WHAT IF IT WASN´T THE WAY IT IS?
That´s simple. Brazilian Apple customers do not understand some issues:
1. We know Brazilian import taxes for Apple products are very high. However, it seems that not only the products´ costs are doubled when they enter the country, but they are doubled again after that. It seems a big cost is added to the products' prices besides import and transportation fees. Brazilian customers do not understand the huge difference between USA prices and Brazilian prices. For example: PowerBook 12" costs, in USA, around BR$ 3,600.00. The moment it enters Brazil, our government makes it cost BR$ 5,800.00. Ok, Apple is the 'victim' here. However, when this product is offered in the shops, it costs BR$ 10,000.00 - what does exactly happen here? Is it something with Apple or just with Apple Brasil?
2. It seems also that the hardware offered in Brazilian shops are always not the last releases. However, this delay is never mentioned and some customers come to find out that their new acquisitions are actually not so new. In the example above, PowerBook 12" offered in Brazil is still... 256MB RAM. It would not be exactly a problem if this difference was clear.
3. Many customers have had big problems trying to fix Apple products with authorized support. Considering avoid Apple support and find an Apple expert is becoming a common dilemma. It shows why the only reason for buying a Apple product in Brazil (guarantee) is becoming insufficient.

A Apple BR não tem direito de cobrar preços tão altos.
Vamos por partes:
Primeiro, eu nao tenho nada a ver com a Apple ou a Apple Brasil. A unica relacao que temos e' que eles fabricaram/criaram/venderam as minhas maquinas... :-)
Em relacao a (1), a diferenca de preco nao e' tao grande assim. O preco (hoje=5/nov/05) de um iBook nos EUA e' US$ 999,00. Com o "frete", vamos arredondar para US$ 1300,00. Com o imposto de importacao, US$ 2080,00 (sim, o imposto inclui o preco do frete!). Convertendo para Real, R$ 4650,00.
O preco de tabela hoje e' de R$ 4900,00. Considerando que a Apple Brasil tem outros custos, nao me parece que a coisa esta tao ruim assim.
Para as outras maquinas, o mesmo raciocinio e' valido.
Quanto o (2), ja melhorou, mas a culpa nao e' da Apple Brasil. Pelo menos, nao diretamente. Todo computador vendido no Brasil deve ser liberado pela Anatel, e nem sempre a Anatel e' muito "eficiente" nesse quesito. Mas as vezes e': em breve ja teremos o iMac iSight aqui.
Quanto a (3)... bom, isso e' verdade. Aqui no RS, dizem que a Soma (http://www.somainfo.com.br) e' boa, e ate' onde eu sei, as pessoas que precisaram do suporte tecnico deles sairam muito satisfeitas.
O meu problema com a Apple Brasil e' que NINGUEM te da informacao nenhuma. Normalmente a Apple US me responde antes da BR (isso quando eu recebo resposta desta ultima), mesmo que eu tenha tentado primeira a Apple Brasil...

I've found a store www.maccenter.com.br which prices are almost the same as the ones charged by Apple in US.
For example: a 20" 2.1GHz iMac is US$ 1699,00. In the maccenter store it costs R$ 8299,00. Too high? NO!
Let's do some math:
US$ 1699,00 x 2,3 (exchange rate) x 1,8 (import tax) = R$ 7033,86 + 17,99% (profit margin) = R$ 8299,00
Profit margin is a bit too high, but maccenter has the best mac prices all around, software included.
I have nothing to do with maccenter, but I see it as "A New Hope" ;)
